Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a self-contained 5th grade classroom. This year I have 28 curious students who love reading. They are a diverse group: GATE (gifted students), Hispanic, African-American, Filipino, Visually impaired, and with a variety of ability levels. They are kind and work well together and "fill buckets" in and out of the classroom. They understand that struggling is part of the learning process and that we only get smarter if we keep "making our brain sweat".
While working on a group project, we realized that we didn't have enough iPads for all groups to work at the same time.
Three of the iPads in our classroom were donations from family members and one iPad is so old that it doesn't even have a camera on it. Our class would really appreciate a new iPad so that we can continue to work on projects such as: stop motion animation iMovies, song writing with garage band, and using Google Forms to check books in and out of our classroom library.
My Project
We currently share 4 iPads among 28 students. We are currently working on making stop motion animation iMovies and realized that one of our classroom iPads is so old that it doesn't have a camera. Now two groups have to share an iPad to make their movies. The frustrated looks on their faces brought me to idea of writing a grant. Not only do we use iPads for creating iMovies, but we use Google Classroom for various research reports and independent projects, and in a few weeks, students will work together to write songs about European Explorers. Please help our classroom get the materials we need to have FUN in the classroom!
