Help me give my students a set of Chromebooks so that they can use them to work in publishing and inquiry stations in English Language Arts and conduct their action research projects this year!
My students are truly unique 5th and 6th graders who enjoy being creative and expressing themselves. They are highly interested in pursuing social justice and love inquiry-based, hands-on learning.
This year we are developing our identities as activists and will conduct action research projects on a variety of issues, ranging from LGBTQ+ rights to gun violence, to segregation in our city.
They consistently add to our wonder wall, are wonderful caretakers of our classroom pet lizard, Skittles, and are careful stewards of our space. We are building an empathetic community where we problem solve using the habits of mind and practices of being writers, readers, and social scientists.
My Project
This year my students will be developing their writer identities and in doing so, we want to create an authentic publishing environment! We will need a set of Chromebooks in order to set up a publishing station, not only for typing our essays, stories, and poems, but also to publish on a class blog, create podcasts, and to conduct research for our action research projects.
We will use our new computers to become informed, participatory citizens of our community and of the world!
By creating our publication and research station, we will be able to implement a true writing workshop, transforming the way we express ourselves and deepening our learning.
