This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager, highly active, curious, and imaginative hands-on learners. My students are engaged daily in a rigorous, integrated academic curriculum. My students live in a high poverty, metropolitan city and attend a Title 1 school. Our inner city school lacks the funding to access supplemental art and technology learning materials. My students show up to class daily and work diligently to overcome the many challenges they face living in the inner city. My students enjoy working cooperatively and display great creativity. Parents continually seek the best possible educational opportunities for their child.

I work to bring students art infused lessons because they have been the most effective in increasing motivation and critical thinking. My goal is to develop a complete mind. Additionally, I believe children benefit from experiences that include discovery, exploration, awakening curiosity, and problem solving.

My Project

My vision is that my students will integrate Technology, Science, and the Arts in creating short films. In our current unit of study, our focus is the Solar System. Abstract concepts like revolving moons, gravitational pull, and planetary orbits are brought to life through skits or plays designed by students. Student film-making groups will research solar system concepts both online and in print involving motion. Students will use the Sketchmate art pack materials to create artistic storyboards and then perform in short films depicting these complex science concepts.

Students will work cooperatively to research solar system science concepts that are usually challenging to comprehend.

They will collaborate to synthesize the information gathered into scripted performance skits in which they will be the "STARS." Using the high quality GoPro action video camera, student teams will film, produce, edit, and premiere original STEM video productions school wide. My hope is to inspire students towards the pursuit of educating the whole mind. The infusion of Performing Arts with Technology and Science will develop critical thinkers that will expand their learning boundaries beyond their classrooms and towards a global understanding.

Technology is a great motivator. When paired with the performing arts, kinesthetic learners will increase their understanding of difficult science concepts. By displaying ideas of motion and planetary movement through performing arts, students will gain a deep and thorough understanding of ideas that are out of this world!
