My Project

We introduced a new art class at our school this year: fused glass. I put together the class and materials needed and have found at the end of the year there are a few items lacking for the program. I have one grinder, I inherited from my mother-in-law who was a glass artist but passed away last summer. I would like to get 2 more grinders as the students line up and wait to use the 1 grinder. (The grinder sands the rough edges of the glass). We also need a few more glass clippers as we currently have three pairs and could use more so we will not have the long wait times between use.

I have the city offices reserved for a student art show next February and March and will display and sell select pieces of fused glass.

The donated items will enhance the class by allowing more students to participate in the class and will speed up production time.

My students are juniors and seniors at an Alternative High School. Most have had a negative experience in high school and are in danger of not graduating when they come to our school. Our classes are small and give more individual attention to the students. We introduced fused glass as an art class for the first time this year and are lacking a few key items. The donations will help enhance this program and their high school experience by being able to do a “hands-on” class, something I have found most students enjoy.
