My Students

Imagine walking into a classroom at the start of the year and seeing books lying on the table or compacted in the corner or the classroom because the only bookstand in the room has dislocated joints. Imagine listening to music and midway the CD player stops playing music.

My students are from an impoverished neighborhood in which every day is a challenge for them.

Many of them arrive to school hungry, unkempt, and starving for attention. My job is to make sure that my students feel as comfortable as possible with a welcome smile, a handshake, a hug, and an inviting room.

My Project

My classroom is lacking storage space and for that reason I am requesting a classic birch bookstand to replace the bookstand in my class. After years of wear and tear, the joints of our old bookstand have been dislocated. The nails that hold the shelves together are corroded and bent. The books that are placed on the book shelves slip through the cracks. I am asking for a CD single cassette player because the one that I have stops playing in the midst of a song sometimes or it just keeps repeating itself. The cassette player simply does not work. I am also requesting 4 chart tablets because I do not have a white board or blackboard in my classroom. I use the chart paper for our daily writing which is the "News of the Day" and other important messages that my students dictate to me.

My students will be able to go to the bookstand and select a book without a rusty nail scraping their skin. My students will be able to listen to music as they enter the classroom without the CD player stopping midway the song. Because I do not have a whiteboard in my classroom, I have to write on the chart paper daily. My class needs a jump start and only you can provide it.
