My Students
My name is Alicia Garcia del Rio.
This is my sixth year teaching first grade at HE in Houston.
It is a dual language campus and I teach Math in Spanish and Science in English. My classroom consists of children who range from different cultural, ethnic, and academic backgrounds. All of them are learning English and Spanish and need extra support to overcome some language barriers.
The difficult time we are all facing will not stop me from providing the necessary tools and methods of teaching for my students to be successful.
My students are amazing and they love to learn something new every day.
My Project
The use of the iPad is incorporated in my daily Math and Science centers in my first-grade classroom. This school year, we are all back to school to teach face to face again, therefore, it is essential for my lessons to have more than three tablets for my students (the school provided just a few). I have implemented the use of digital technology in my lessons because it complements the existing teaching approaches and methodologies in Math and Science, rather than replacing them.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' numeracy and problem-solving skills in a more engaging and exciting way than traditional approaches.
By implementing the use of tablets in my Math and Science centers, my students will have instant input and feedback using interactive apps that facilitate their learning. They will be responsible for their own learning since the iPad allows them to work at their own pace. Research shows that iPads increase children’s confidence and ownership of learning. My students and I truly need your support to make this happen. Thanks from the deep of my heart.
