Funday Fridays in the Library!

My Project

The School Library is preparing for the new school year 25/26. We need help with replacing many of the old board games and puzzles offered on Fridays in the library, as many of the pieces are lost or missing. Offering "Funday Fridays" in the library has served multiple meaningful purposes beyond just fun. Here are a few goals we achieve on "Funday Fridays":

Education Benefits:

-Promotes a love for reading in a relaxed, engaging atmosphere.

-Reinforces learning through play, especially with literacy-based games, crafts, or storytelling.

-Encourages student exploration of new genres, topics, or resources they might not normally check out.

Social-Emotional Growth:

-Builds a sense of community within the library space.

-Improves student well-being by offering a break from traditional academics.

-Strengthens relationships between students, librarians, and teachers.

Increases Engagement:

-Draws in students who may not typically visit the library.

-Boosts participation in other library programs by making the space feel more welcoming.

-Promotes equity by offering a no-cost, accessible activity space for all students.

Promotes Creativity and Choice:

-Activities like maker stations, book-themed challenges, or DIY crafts can foster imagination and problem-solving.

-Student voice and choice can be incorporated (e.g., student-selected themes or activities).

Rebrands the Library:

-Helps shift the perception of the library from being a quiet, rules-heavy space to a dynamic, student-centered hub.

-Encourages cross-curricular collaboration with teachers who may want to tie in content areas.
