This one-day workshop will help to enhance the instruction that I am giving to my 2nd grade students who have reading deficits and/or individual education plans. On a daily basis, I use Wilson Fundations Level 2 to help my students receiving additional reading help. Students are exposed to letter formation, sentence structure, decoding, encoding, trick words, and the automaticity of reading each day within this intervention.
Though I teach this intervention program every day, I have not had any true professional development that will help me to continue to implement this program with fidelity.
I want to continue to grow myself as an educator in order to grow my students and fellow colleagues who also use this program. This workshop additionally will help me collaborate with other skilled educators. I will be able to see how the program is meant to be taught with fidelity, as well as continue to see the ins and outs of the online component that helps give educators additional supplemental activities when students need additional explicit instruction.
I will immediately be able to apply what I have learned in my classroom while I teach my students. Not only do I teach students this intervention every day, but I also communicate to their parents as to what we are learning and how they are able to carry over the intervention at home. Students will benefit as not only learners but enhance their decoding, encoding, and writing skills as students. They will understand the WHY of the program, as well as myself by attending this professional development.
