These materials will make a difference for my second grade students who are receiving enrichment services through a program called Jacob's Ladder. It helps students with their comprehension and thinking critically about the text they are reading.
My students need text to read in order to have deep conversations with their peers which will help enhance their reading comprehension. Students read the text several times and analysis the text's meaning across multiple "ladders" Each ladder emphasizes on various reading skills and strategies. Students focus on implications and consequences, generalizations, main ideas/themes/concepts, creative synthesis, emotional development, and word study. Without these texts students would have to listen to their teacher read aloud the text and then have conversations from the read aloud. With the help of donations towards our enrichment library, students will be able to find text evidence themselves without having to take turns with their peers. They will be able to take notes, converse with each other, and become a deeper thinker through the use of these texts.
