Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a high school with four SLC (small learning communities): Performing Arts, New Media, School for Advanced Studies, and Teaching Career Academy. Each SLC has its own personality of students that makes them unique. Overall, I love my students' positive attitude and how astute they are. They are the reason I want to come into work.
They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the twenty-first century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world.
My Project
Participation from our students this past school year was very difficult for teachers. Students were reluctant to turn on their cameras and their microphones. This made it hard for students to practice their communication skills. With the use of dry erase boards, post-its, and index cards, I'm hoping that the students can use them as a stepping tool to express their opinions during lessons. This will lead to them to being more comfortable to talk aloud.
Students love hands-on activities.
This is a feature in my science classroom that I missed the most during this past school year. Everything was all virtual and made it very difficult for students to learn in multiple formats. I want to provide stations throughout the rooms for students to work on different activities that causes them to collaborate, communicate, and present their findings to peers. Show them what the importance of in-person schooling is all about.
