My Students
I am teaching in an urban school district. The students are suffering economically. The majority come to school without the necessary school supplies. Their reading level is extremely low for eighth graders.
Our benchmark scores reflect that the majority of my students are reading on a fifth to sixth grade reading level.
Which needs to be increased, so that when they move onto ninth grade they are ready to read fluently and comprehend what has been read. Many students try to read our textbooks; however, they fail because of their low vocabulary and morphology skills.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting will assist my students to journal daily in their notebook. It also gives students time to organize their thoughts and prepare responses, which can give them the extra confidence they need to participate in classroom discussions. Journaling is also a way for teachers to learn more about their students.
Secondly, Teachers Pay Teachers site has prepared lessons that have successfully worked with other students.
In addition, worksheets can be assigned digitally and will allow students to access on their own computers or cell phone.
