People can struggle to relate to the average 8th grader, but I think they are incredible. They are still kids but starting that maturity in young adulthood. They have style, humor and numerous talents. They can be focused and mature in one minute and child-like and goofy in the next. They are all individuals with unique personalities that somehow all fit together. When you get deep into content with them they enjoy it and ask great questions and show strong insights. They are tremendous critical thinkers who are inherently curious about the world in which they live.
My Project
The textbook that most adults grew up using no longer exists. The relevant and timely resources we need for students to be successful are now digital and available on the internet. Amazing curriculum resources are available at our fingertips, however, our school does not have enough computers for students to access these engaging, rigorous, and thought-provoking materials.
Our town is not able to afford a 1:1 technology plan like many of the high achieving school districts in Massachusetts.
You can help start to change that by funding this project. Your assistance will aid all 8th grade social studies students at our middle school, as the Chromebooks will be shared among all social studies classes.
These Chromebooks will be used to facilitate Document Based Questions, allowing students to read primary sources online and then compose thoughtful written responses to the big idea questions. Our amazing students deserve 21st century readiness for high school, college and beyond, as thoughtful and reflective participants in our democracy. Thank you very much for your generosity in helping achieve this!
