My Students
My students are elementary school students in a special education classroom with disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and sensory processing disorder. They face many challenges during each school day and want to be as independent as possible, just like any other kid!
I strive to find ways that my students can be successful throughout their day, while promoting their independence and building their self-esteem.
My students inspire me everyday as they work to overcome the obstacles facing them.
My Project
A student's job is to play and learn while at school! It has been demonstrated throughout the research that children learn best when they are engaged with what they are doing. The items that I have listed will help my students with special needs get excited about practicing the functional skills of fasteners in a variety of ways to generalize their skills.
My students require additional repetitions and exposure to tasks in order to master them, and the products in this project will allow them to reach the necessary repetitions in interesting ways!
This project addresses the student's personal development and self-care skills while at school which are important to achieve to access all areas of the core curriculum.
These products can be used with students from 1st-6th grade for years to come. The products can be easily adapted to fit the individual student's needs and level of mastery so that they can successfully build their skills towards independence.
