My students need various options for seating. Sitting in chairs at a desk is not a "one size fits all" way to learn. My students need to be comfortable to learn and I'm all for that!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a moderate to severe special education teacher in Whittier, California. I work with K-2 students with special needs. The disabilities of my students differ from down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, to intellectual disabilities.

I have such a great group of kids with such a great perspective on life.

They want to do all that they can do. They have no limits to what they want to do. I love working with them and learning from them on a daily basis.

My Project

The various options for seating such as Lap Desks and Saucer Chairs around the class will give my students the ability to choose how they want to learn. With being so young and having the wiggles on top of having some unique learning needs, my students need to have the ability to have a preference in how they are comfortable learning. There are those times where I just want to lay on the floor and my students have those times as well, and I want to be able to support them in that option. Being stuck at a desk all day is no fun! I want to provide the best structural and organized way to help my students learn how they please!
