My students need these materials to practice Literacy and Social skills for my students who have visual impairments and additional learning disabilities.
FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Gardiner's classroom raised $178

My Students
My students have visual impairments, and some of them have additional disabilities. All of my students have been struggling with reading due to lack of Braille skills. Some of them started learning braille because of their decreasing vision, and some of them may require additional assistance although they have been blind since birth.
The Literacy has been very important for them.
Learning to read and write Braille takes lots of practices and different strategies. It is critical that they all need to know how to read and write in Braille. The literacy can be nothing without learning the braille.
My Project
My students have significantly delayed in social skills due to the visual impairments and additional learning challenges. The social skills can be one of the Exoanded Core Curriculum (ECC) skills, whoch is a vision specific skills that the students must be taught in orer to survive in the society. Because of their vision loss, my students have difficulty to read nonverbal cues including facil expression, gestures, and body language. They also do not know how to demonstrate socially accpetable behaviors in different occasions.
I would like to incorporate Braille reading, writing, vocabulary skills when I teach social skills through the social stories.
The social stories will be created as a braille format by the teacher. Majority of the words in the text are frequently used Dolch word lists that the students practice decoding and vocabulary skills. The students will apply reading and writing skills as they read the text from different social stories. The students will be taught how to demonstrate social behaviors at the end of the lesson.
More than half of students from low‑income households
