Functional Movement Kids Club As A Physical-Education Curriculum
My students need wall balls, kettle bells, boxes, sand bag set and a pull up bar to help learn functional movements that provide an alternative to the sport-specific skills most children learn in school.
Fitness and clean eating are essential to both Mr. Davis, the PE teacher, and myself. We would like to share our healthy lifestyles with our children. Our children come from a very diverse background, where English is not the native language. Our children at our school are not exposed to fitness nor healthy eating on a regular and daily basis. What Mr. Davis and myself would like to do is introduce our children to different functional movements that would help them throughout life. The tools we requested to teach functional movements to our kids club are very abstract to them. A sand bag will teach children how to properly pick it up without using their backs and just their legs as we also want to show our children how to use a kettle bell properly.
My Project
Together with a grant from Crossfit and Mr. Davis and Ms. Lombardo, children will learn functional movements that will be more conducive to long-term health. Mr. Davis and I want to improve the lives of the students entrusted to our care the ultimate goal being that the lessons learned during the academic day will carry over into their lives outside of school. We want to improve and preserve the physical, emotional and academic wellness of our students.
Functional training can help to correct bad posture and muscular imbalances.
It develops strong, lean bodies and helps with flexibility and mobility. Functional movements, provide an alternative to the sport-specific physical skills most children learn in school. In our club, children will learn functional movements that are fun and prepare the children for a lifetime of fitness and everyday activities.
The items that we like to purchase would greatly benefit the children and aid in the development and improvement of their functional movement ability. For example, the Jump boxes will help children properly learn how to jump and land. It improves the reaction of fast-twitch muscle fibers throughout the body and helps with body control and balance. The Wall balls would help students improve hand-eye coordination while engaging multiple muscles and joints throughout the body. The use of the kettle bells strengthens the tendons and ligaments, making the joints tougher and less-susceptible to injury. The elastic tension bands will improve balance, reduce joints pain, improve the speed of movement. The use of the agility ladder will boost quickness, foot speed, coordination, and body awareness. The jump ropes will be used to help the students develop coordination, improve bone density, including cardiovascular health and stamina.
