My room is designed for the most outstanding students within my school. I teach three different grade levels, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. With a range of disabilities of Autism, Emotional and Learning disabilities, Intellectual and Multiple disabilities. All students make gains in my classroom, because of the amazing team of Educational Assistants, administration, and support staffs. My classroom is about building skills in life and character education. The work we do in this classroom builds relationships between students, staff, parents and community. My students are provided with as many hands-on learning experiences as possible.
My Project
Last school year caused a breakdown of social interaction with my students as most of the year was done virtually. This school year I'd like to give my students the opportunity to operate a more hands-on functional learning projects that will build on their social interaction with the general education students.
Running a coffee cart and building a garden will give my student functional learning of real life math, social studies, and science with general education students to provide peer support for improving inclusivity within the school community, while also providing students with severe needs a model for engaging with individuals in a socially acceptable manner.
This project will help my students with their peer interaction, following visual recipes, and functional hands-on project based learning.
Upon successful implementation these projects, the goal is to combine with the other classrooms within the school to expand efforts and produce a farmer's market with all level classes in one location and build as many hands-on learning experiences as possible.
