Our school is situated within the Urban Metropolis of Miami in Liberty City, serving students from various cultural and racial backgrounds. As a instructor, I strive to find the potential in all students. I have the pleasure of working with a dynamic group of English language learners originating from 10 countries in grades 9 through 12.
Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is motivation and access to instructional resources.
A large percentage of my students have been in the United States less than six months; many of which are limited in the English Language. These unique learners continuously put forth a willingness to acquire the English language and have a motivation to learn. The students I have the pleasure of working with strive for success and independence. They all continually make an effort to improve in all aspects of their learning.
My Project
One of the most important components of a learning environment or classroom is its organization. The word "organization" can imply management or tidyness, however, I see it as creating a positive environment that is student-oriented and runs smoothly to support a positive learning environment. I would like to incorporate the use of functional learning stations in my lessons that encourages independence, risk-taking and organization, especially for students learning English as a second language. Students will have access to a printer station with paper, and a labeling station for organizing assignments, projects, and items around the room.
I want my classroom to transform into a functional environment of learning that incorporates learning stations to enhance academic achievement.
These materials will make a big difference in my students' learning because an organized classroom filled with resources will enhance not only the setting, but also support students' socio-emotional well being which will ultimately boosts their academic performance.
