Functional Furniture For Special Needs

Help me give my students furniture for creating the most optimal classroom learning environment as we transition to special education ICT.

My Project

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! As of April 2025, in order to comply with a class size reduction mandate in New York State, New York City schools such as ours at PS 125 are to receive extra funding in order to hire more teachers and transition to a school-wide Integrated Co-Teaching, or ICT, model.

While we celebrate this new mandate and the hiring of more teachers, an ICT model with two teachers in a classroom requires a lot of additional materials and furniture in order to create the most conducive learning environment possible.

The United Federation of Teachers defines ICT as, "An instructional model that allows students with disabilities to be educated with age‐appropriate peers without disabilities in the general education classroom with the support of a special education teacher to deliver specially designed instruction and accommodate and modify instruction, as needed. One general education and one special education teacher share accountability for the planning, delivery of instruction, and assessment for all students."

If funded, this project will provide both the general education teacher and the special education teacher a new teaching table, age-appropriate seating, and helpful tools for delivering instruction such as various whiteboards that can be moved in order to create multiple learning spaces within 1 classroom space.
