A quote from one of my students says so much about the character of our class-
“If I had to choose between 1 million dollars or 1 million books, I would choose books because knowledge is more important than money”.
In our classroom we value open mindedness, respect, struggles, and persistence as we develop as life long learners. Our classroom is full of 34 4th grade students with various rich cultures, languages, and experiences. My students have a wide variety of learning, language, and social needs, but every single student has a passion for making the world a better place.
My Project
Flexible seating options in our classroom allow students to work in a space that is comfortable and most beneficial for them. Working without distraction can be difficult in a room with 34 students, each with various needs and strengths.
With 34 students in one classroom, we have to be able to turn every inch of our room into a learning friendly, and safe space.
My students come to school eager to learn, and they want their classroom to reflect them as confident and creative 4th graders. Since all of the students have different needs and preferences when it comes to their learning styles, flexible seating provides our classroom with options for students to make choices for themselves on where and how to work.
Many of my students choose to work on the floor where they can create their own private space. With that in mind, the wobble cushions and square floor cushions will provide them a more comfortable surface to sit on, rather than the hard ground. Additionally, the couch/chair set and coffee tables will allow us to work in small groups in a space that is comfortable and relaxed. Before any learning can take place, students must feel safe and welcome in their learning environment. The selections I've asked for in this project will help create a warm tone in our practical classroom that is already FULL of students... and dedication!
