Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach students with severe and intellectual disabilities at the high school level. They are focusing on functional life skills, functional money math skills, independence/self help skills and /post-secondary/citizenship skills. These students will exit high school to attend a 18-22 year old program in which they will focus on volunteering at local non profits, take public transportation, self advocate. This is what they are getting ready for.

My Project

The program would like to start a garden outside of our portable. The students also are learning how to perform job skills such as hanging clothes, laundry, shredding documents, sorting and stocking items, etc.

For example, the soil, pots, and gardening tools would be for the garden.

For example, the whiteboards, velcro, and lamination sheets would assist the students in the writing, paper side of these tasks.

The school cannot purchase these items for us, as the items are not in the catalog in which we purchase supplies from. These items I am requesting are needed to prepare the students for the functional tasks they may encounter in post secondary life.
