Regardless of the multiple challenges they face, my students are very talented in their own unique ways. My students are motivated, hard-working, and eager to please!
My students attend a middle school in a suburb of Richmond, Virginia.
My students are part of a self-contained special education program that teaches functional academics (including reading, math, history, science, and life skills) to students that require extensive support. My students are 6th, 7th, and 8th graders that have varying levels of needs and abilities. My students need books to supplement social skills and career units. They need basic picture math books for non-readers, cooking lessons/recipes, and a double burner and fridge.
My Project
The requested materials are vital to our student's learning of necessary and basic life skills that they will utilize throughout their lives. These resources will serve to enhance our life skills curriculum which covers units in shopping, grocery shopping, cooking, household (items, rooms, & responsibilities), career exploration, social skills, basic math & banking, personal hygiene and daily life skills.
Many of the requested books about careers are differentiated for a variety of levels and would benefit both my readers and non-readers. The requested appliances (double burner and refrigerator) would allow us to cook and complete cooking lessons and activities in our own classroom. With these resources my students will learn to cook safely, understand basic math concepts, have a better understanding of careers, and learn basic social skills that they will need to hold a job.
Donations would greatly improve our classroom, specifically our life skills curriculum, by providing our students with the tools and resources they need to receive the best education and independence possible.
