My students are funny, smart, and try so hard to learn and please their teacher. My class is diverse and there are many students whose first language is not English. Having hands-on tools available to them is crucial to the success of their learning. They get so excited when I tell them, "We will be learning something new today."
Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most important weapon which you can use to change the world." I hope that through the education my students receive, this is something they will take away at the end of the year.
My students especially love it when I bring out the hands-on learning tools available in our classroom. It is so fun to watch their minds grow and expand as they are manipulating objects that help to solidify the difficult concepts taught in first grade. In addition to teaching my students content from the core, I am trying to teach them that education is powerful, that it will get them anywhere they want to go, and that it will help them to change the world.
My Project
My students have gained a new appreciation for STEM activities. They have requested that I write projects asking for materials that will allow them to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math through exploration and hands-on activities.
The Power Tiles Circuit Kit will provide students with opportunities to practice and learn about electronics and robotics.
This activity will also provide students with opportunities to experiment with sound, light and motion.
The Engineer-A-Coaster will give students experience with learning how to build a make shift roller coaster. Students will learn about how track position affects the way the disk falls into the goal box.
The Building Brick Stem Kit will give students practice with many engineering skills such as building a bridge or car and creating a marble maze.
The Lakeshore Dough will be used in our Stop Motion Animation Station. Students will use the dough to create claymation videos that will be shared with classmates.
Donations to this project will allow my students to have the mini STEM station they have requested, and will provide them with positive learning experiences that will help them through out their school career and beyond.
