My Project
My 2nd graders are loving literacy and learning about phonics! We are diving deep into the patterns and rules of the English language and learning that bigger words can be decoded using the 6 syllable types. I like to bring in different manipulatives to make our learning time fun but to also touch upon other learning modalities.
Using magnetic wands to blend their letters is a magical thing for a 7-year-old.
I will use the LCD boards for segmenting words, spelling, writing, and so many other fun activities. These boards are colorful and teach them how to use their fine motor skills for correct letter formation and drawing; a life skill that will follow them as they progress through their education.
Having hands-on activities that are fun helps my students feel like we are playing a game but they are really learning why letters make the sounds they do and the logic behind the language of English.
