This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are enthusiastic learners and strive to do their best. Many of them face challenges inside and outside of the classroom, but they never give up. My vision is to have a classroom that provides critical thinking opportunities and provides differentiation for each student so that they are all able to thrive as learners.

I am currently teaching 20 wonderful first grade students in a Title I (low socioeconomic status) school.

Our school uses the Daily 5 with Guided Reading to meet each student's needs. Nothing is better than seeing the pride on my students' faces as they see their growth as they work to become the best first graders they can be.

My Project

My students need Unifix Phonics materials to help aid small group reading instruction and intervention. The Phonics Unifix cards will help students to gain hands-on phonics skills. The Hot Dots phonics sets will help students gain necessary phonics skills such as short and long vowels, blends, and digraphs.

My first graders will use these Unifix Phonics and Hot Dots phonics materials to become motivated readers and lifelong learners.

We will use these as a part of our Guided Reading, Daily 5, and Intervention time. Having fun, hands-on ways for students to practice their phonics and reading skills will help foster a love of reading and learning. It is my goal that all of my first graders will be fluent readers by the end of this year.
