Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from a low-income urban school district. All students are given free breakfast and lunch everyday to help fuel their learning. Most of my students look forward to coming to school every day so they can learn, play, and socialize in a safe environment. My hope is that they will also come to school and develop a love of reading! The first step to achieving this is to increase their basic reading skills.
Phonemic awareness is crucial for developing early reading and most of my students are critically behind in their development of this skill.
I work primarily with struggling readers in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade and I am constantly searching for new and creative ways to help my students learn important skills.
This supplemental curriculum will allow me to simultaneously enhance the current core curriculum for all my students and provide differentiated instruction for students that need additional support. All of my students would be utilizing this curriculum and learning from it on a daily basis!
