This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a classroom of 20 students. I work in a system where we are 100% free and reduced breakfast and lunch. We have an extremely high poverty rate. Last year we wrote a grant for an outdoor shade structure. This has been a wonderful addition to our school. My students have various needs in the classroom. Outdoor time gives them the chance to learn in a different environment.
Fresh air is good for the soul.
My students are very resilient and hard working. They want to learn. Sometimes allowing them time to learn outside gives them motivation and a different perspective. I want to give them something they have never had before.
My Project
We have a beautiful area outside of our school that we have been working to improve for our students. Currently, we have a shade canopy with bench seating. The benches look great but have not been able to provide our students with an appropriate writing area or place to sit items.
Love, learn and grow area is a special place for EVERY STUDENT.
Our teachers and staff have requested picnic tables for this area. By providing picnic tables, we will be able to have class meetings, lunches, and even lessons/activities outside. The shade structure provides 90%+ protection from UV rays and allows students with various needs an area to enjoy the fresh air.
