This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from very low income homes, most of them are new to the country. Their lives are difficult because of the poverty they live in, but they love learning. We have a small play money classroom store that I use to teach counting money and financial responsibility in a fun way while supporting my students' needs for food and supplies.
I give students play money as a reward for doing homework, behaving in line, getting good grades.... They can then use that play money to buy items from our classroom store.
These materials will be used to expand our play money classroom store which gets depleted rather quickly with 45 students making purchases regularly. This store is a fantastic opportunity to teach students how to count money. They also learn financial responsibility by saving their money when they want to buy a more expensive item.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
