Fun with Fractured Fairy Tales

My Students

I love the individuality and uniqueness of our 5th grade students. They each bring their own creativity and fun to our classroom. Our students use their creative and funny personalities to create stories they love to write and share with their peers. We explore reading and writing together. We are creating a classroom of lifelong readers, creative thinkers, and effective writers.

Our students are special in the fact that they bring their own life experiences, backgrounds, and interest to the table and enrich our classroom with their ideas and diversity.

My Project

In 5th grade we examine different literature and the point of view of the narrator. The author's perspective changes the events in a story and the reader can look through the the eyes of the writer. During our lesson on narrator's point of view, we read several different fairy tales and books that are from a different perspective. Having the ability to read different perspectives on the same theme helps the students to compare and contrast different points of view. For example the perspective of the wolf, not the view of the pigs. Another good example of different perspectives would be the book series Myth-o-Mania. After our lesson, students create their own story and book from their point of view.

Students creating and making their own fractured fairy tale book helps them to see how the author's perspective and events in a story changes depending on the view of the author.

Students love to create and share with their peers. The ability to create their own book with art supplies allows them to take ownership of their learning and ensures an exciting and engaged environment.
