I am in my third year teaching at Paul Revere School in Chicago, IL. I teach a lively classroom of 28 Kindergarten students, who are excited and eager to learn to read! We struggle with the fact that we do not have the supplies needed to make sure my students are engaged in learning, rather than watching it! This year I have decided to focus on teaching fluency, in addition to comprehension, word knowledge and writing. Fluency is the ability for students to read with expression. By the end of the year I would love for all of my students to be able to, "Read a sentence the way we talk." To do this I would like to put together a group of centers that would promote fluency. In order to do this I would need two sets of pocket charts two pocket chart holders. Students will use this to manipulate and read poems, songs and chants. I would also like to increase the number of listening centers books for my students to listen to. Please help my students become better readers by providing the appropriate materials to help them engage in learning.
