This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds and are at various academic levels. Now they are reconnecting with their peers in person in their first complete classroom experience since before kindergarten. They are excited to be in school and are enthusiastic about learning and practicing new skills together each day.

Their enthusiasm, kindness, and resilience are contagious.

This is a special group with many strengths!

My Project

My students are enjoying being back in the classroom, but the routines are not quite as interesting as they were at the beginning of the year when everything was new and exciting. The work is getting more demanding and sometimes it's just not fun for them. Many traditional games like Sorry!, Connect Four, Moncala, and Candyland are wonderful examples of games that focus on counting, patterns, strategy, and spatial perception. There are many other educational games that support math and language skills available, so I have explored games that include learning how to count money and tell time, as well as practicing how to create words. Finally, I know that I will need a place to store the games, so I have requested a shelving unit to keep them organized and ready. We will regularly use the games during Fun Fridays, rainy days, and other times to perk up our learning experiences.

By donating to this project, you will help strengthen students' academic achievement by augmenting their learning with interactive, engaging, and low-pressure experiences.

As well as reinforcing mathematical and language arts concepts, board games help build teamwork skills, relationships with classmates, as well as work on taking turns and following the rules of the game. Ultimately with this project, my students will be learning together in fun ways!
