My students need active and multiple seating opportunities for learning success such as comfy pillows, a beach chair, exercise balls, wobble cushions, and lap desks.
Where do I want to sit today! My students come to school full of energy and ready to learn! After a limited amount of time without being able to move or be comfortable, the wiggles start coming about! They need flexible and comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and learning. Studies show that students learn better when they are physically active and comfortable.
My students love to learn through hands-on projects and are creative thinkers!
In addition, they are creative, clever, and kind; therefore, I want to provide them with the resources in which they can be successful learners in the classroom. I want to create a more responsive classroom where more of my diverse, high needs students needs are met.
If my students are given the opportunity for more choice in their learning positions, opportunities for success will be right at their fingertips!!!
My Project
Being comfortable while learning is the key to student success!
Students need to be able to move and be comfortable while learning.
There is an increase in engagement and focus when students have an opportunity to move. In addition, providing multiple places where students can sit, stand, or even work under their desks allows them a variety of choices on the best area to complete their work.
Just a simple little beach chair, exercise ball, pillows, or even lap desks has an incredible impact on students. One can completely see the excitement on students faces when they are given the opportunity to decide where they are going to complete their work for the day. Studies have shown that students learn better in an inviting and comfortable environment.
Some students work best in a traditional desk and chair, while others prefer to have more space and work in other areas such as the floor. The use of wobble cushions and lap trays are just a few opportunities for students to use while working comfortably on the floor. For students who need some opportunity to "move" while learning, an exercise ball might do the trick!
There are endless opportunities for flexible seating and I am excited to begin implementing this seating style in my 3rd grade classroom this year. Success = an inviting classroom in which students take ownership of their learning through the use of flexible seating! This flexible and dynamic environment motivates students and leads to student success!
