This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a fifth grade science teacher. I teach 139 students in a high need community. Hands on activities help promote higher level thinking skills and make science fun.
My students love science! Last year alone I spent around $700 of my own money for lab activities and materials for my students. Only $250 can be taken off of taxes. I am a single mom with a son in college and I can't afford to spend that this year. My students have very little science before they reach fifth grade. These activities help them develop a love for learning and for science.
Learners can explore the flow of energy through the ecosystem by dissecting owl pellets. They are also able to understand the relationship of all living things to the ecosystem.LS.4.5.2,LS.4.5.3. Students are able to understand the importance of how rocks and minerals are used through investigation.(ESS.8.5.1,ESS.8.5.3,ESS.8.5.4,ESS.8.5.5,ESS.8.5.8) The learner will be excited about the study of fossils when they are able to make their own. With the molds and plaster I requested they will be able to do just that!ESS.9.5.1,ESS.9.5.2,ESS.9.5.3)
With your help my students will have opportunities that all students deserve to have. Without the funding, differentiation will be difficult to take place in the classroom.
