My Students
Do you know how fun it is to be in a reading group with your own peers? My students will love to read a great story, improve reading and comprehending by interacting and discussing with each other!
My school has high expectations for our students, therefore, the students in my class are responsible, dedicated and hard working.
They enjoy going to school and can learn best in a safe and comfortable environment. My students do the best when I can give them a variety of learning techniques and strategies. They like to be engaged in group/partner projects, however, they can produce great pieces of work individually as well. My 3rd grade class of 20 kids are a diverse group coming from many ethnic backgrounds.
My Project
Currently, I teach Language Arts and reading, comprehension and writing in a variety of ways, however, I have not started leveled reading groups within my class. Leveled reading groups has been something I've always wanted to try because the kids would learn so much from them. With a variety of leveled book collections, I will be able to group my kids according to their reading level. They will have the opportunity to read in groups, discuss and write their thoughts and ideas, participate in group projects and share their work with the rest of the class. This learning improves self confidence, reading/comprehension and builds on social skills. Reading groups will open doors to Readers Theater and Drama as well.
Since my students are reading on different levels in 3rd grade, these leveled book collections will be perfect for my class.
I know they will enjoy having their own time reading and discussing their own book with a group of their peers. Most importantly, they will understand the text and feel successful. Additionally, my students will love to share culminating projects with the entire class upon completing the stories they read together!
