My Students

I have the pleasure of working with outstanding children.

They come to school prepared to learn and try their best every day. I teach in a Title I school with a high population of non-native English speakers. Our school is located in a low-income area, with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. I focus on the potential and growth of the children in my room. That growth is measured in student joy and love for learning, and their engagement in classroom activities!

My Project

My students need visual models and manipulatives to master math fluency strategies. This Daily Math Fluency Kit provides a teacher guide to help me systematically introduce students to math fluency. In first grade students are required to learn to reason with numbers and internalize numerical concepts.

My students are concrete learners and the ability to physically manipulate products that help in their thinking is a necessity.

It has been determined that learning fun builds on student academic gains.

The number strings will help students recognize number relationships. Included in the kit is many Math Talks lessons that I will use to elicit opportunities for students to talk and reason about relationships in numbers. Large demonstration manipulatives will be used by myself and the students to demonstrate understanding of math concepts. Students will video their use of these items, sharing understanding in their portfolios. Learning should be fun and students are motivated when they enjoy what they are doing.
