This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a high-poverty school, where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch! I have high expectations that they will grow and learn beyond what is expected.
School is a safe and happy place for my students.
Each day, they come into the classroom excited about the day and spending time exploring and learning together. For many of my students, being at school is the best part of their day.
My Project
Incentives are powerful tools. Positive incentives can create a motivating classroom and school environment. I want to support and reward students in our class and school by giving them incentives for their hard work and good behavior. I feel students should be rewarded to continue their motivated effort.
Our school is implementing the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program this year.
The mission of the PBIS program is to provide support for positive behavior at all levels of the school including school-wide, classroom, and individual support. Students love stickers, mini erasers, fidget toys, bracelets and rings. When using positive behavior support and appropriate classroom management, research has shown a decrease in problems which increases academic time.
