Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are amazing. We are one of the top Title I schools in our county, scoring a continuous A or B for the last 10+ years. Our students and parents highly value education and it shows in all our students achieve.
Our student population is composed of 87% Hispanic students, 2.6% African American students, and 1.2% Asian students.
The majority of our students originate from Spanish speaking countries, primarily Cuba. 91.3% of our students are eligible for free or reduced price lunch.
Our school environment is one where students feel safe, valued, and cared for. We pride ourselves on making our students feel at home away from home.
My Project
Recess is a time for students to have fun while simultaneously getting exercise which has multiple benefits. When my students go out daily for recess they are limited to one partially inflated football at the moment.
We need sports equipment such as sports disks, kickballs, footballs, and jump ropes to maximize their physical activity during recess.
When students have access to playground equipment not only will they benefit from exercise, but students will enhance their social skills and practice collaboration with peers. This sports equipment will allow students to truly enjoy recess, without having to share limited resources. Even though these items would be used for approximately 30 minutes a day it will really make a difference in their school experience!
