This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our elementary school is located in Duquesne City right outside of Pittsburgh, PA. We host students PreK-6th grade from various cultural backgrounds. Unfortunately, many of our students live under the poverty line and lack the home experiences that help them succeed at school.
My students love to play, learn, explore, and create!
As their teacher, it's my job to get them ready for Kindergarten and, more importantly, to make them love school. It's my goal to provide them with all the opportunities possible to give them the best start in school and in life!
My Project
I want to expose my students to foods from different cultures along with fruits and vegetables that they can play with during their center time. My students love playing at the kitchen and they often use the food and materials to serve meals, have birthday parties, and cook.
These play food sets will expose my students to food from different cultures and start conversations that they wouldn't have otherwise.
The plates and utensils will provide the ability to have meals and enhance their play time at the kitchen. Play is the most important part of Pre-K, and providing opportunities for their play to be enhanced is the most important job I have!
