Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege to work with some of the most amazing students. My students are sweet, funny, smart, loving, silly and they have autism. My students are so much more than the single label that so, unfortunately, gets placed on them. I see my students as tiny humans that have the ability to learn, love and laugh every single day.
My students have taught me kindness and patience and in return, I want to teach them reading comprehension in a fun and engaging way.
In my classroom, we do so much more than paper pencil worksheets. We do hands-on activities, we do full-color projects and we do fun. It can be very challenging to engage my students so I need the WOW factor in everything I do to truly capture them in order to educate them.
My Project
School can be challenging for many students. I believe my job as an educator is to make school as fun and meaningful as possible. I teach students with moderate to severe autism. That makes for an added challenge to engaging my students.
These items would ensure my students are engaged in and learning math, writing and social skills all within one school day.
With these items, it would help my students learn their letter sounds and then how to sound out words. We could play games and work on important social skills that students with autism need extra practice with.
The lamination and velcro would help me create more fun games and activities for students to work on. Making school enjoyable and meaningful is always my goal for my students.
