My Project

I am working toward offering flexible seating to improve experience for my students. As I enter the classroom each day, in front of me sits students of diverse backgrounds, experiences, skills, and beliefs. I know that no two learners are the same, so I also cannot expect my classrooms to cater to one learning style. Due to the forced isolation, limited social interaction, and zero opportunity to practice basic social skills, my students need practice feeling comfortable again in a relaxed social setting. Flexible seating has been proven to improve collaboration, creativity, and student achievement. Students will be able to choose which environment best suits their learning preferences. This will not only create a challenging and fun learning space, but also give them opportunities to have positive social interactions with their peers.

My goal is to have my classroom as dynamic as our students, focused on honing skills that will prepare them for a future we cannot yet foresee.

Thus, I am trying to abandon the isolated, desks-in-rows model of the past and am moving toward a fully flexible classroom designed for the future. If you were to peek into my classroom, you would see students working on independent and collaborative projects based on their own interests and inquiries.
