Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many students are driven, hard-working, bright, humorous, and kind. They attend a Title I public school meaning that most of my students come from poverty-stricken homes. My students are currently enrolled in online learning due to the pandemic. I create engaging, interactive, and accessible online lessons and videos to provide a quality education despite the online context.
My Project
I am a first year teacher in a poverty-stricken community. Many of my students have various out-of-school responsibilities and academic stress. In an effort to bring mindfulness in to my classroom to improve wellness and social emotional learning, I want to incorporate these fun hands-on wellness activities in to my classroom. Every Wednesday we practice Wellness Wednesday and these supplies would help elevate the possibility of various activities in the classroom. With these supplies we will be able to practice guided meditation, origami, adult coloring, slime making (that double as a fidget toy for students with special accommodations) and painting- all calming wellness-promoting activities.
These activities also orient students to each other and facilitate group-work and social emotional learning.
My students are creative and passionate and I know they would love these crafts! The speaker will help to play guided meditations and soothing music for our activities. Thank you in advance for considering supporting my classroom!
