This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This school year my focus is to build stronger relationships with students. One of the ways to build those relationships is to designate Fun Fridays. These days will take place on days where motivation is low, days where attendance seems to be low (before and after holidays), and days where students just need a break from academics. As adults, we know that it can be challenging to be at work when we are experiencing difficulties in life so I can only imagine what it may feel like for teenagers.
Therefore, an item that we can use in the classroom for Fun Fridays is a hair styler.
The hair styler is based on my students who love to do their hair and style their classmates' hair. The bonus on this is that some of these students want to pursue a cosmetology career so it would serve as practice in the meantime. Additionally, we can never go wrong with the opportunity to work on collaboration skills. Without a doubt, strengthening collaboration skills is what I aim to teach my students and doing it through a "fun" activity is definitely the best way to learn.
