Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember when it was a rainy day and you would play Heads Up, 7-Up? Although we still do play that game, my students would like to have other options for rainy days. And do you recall the time when you looked forward to playing outside during recess, lunch, and P.E.?
My students are fun-loving and enjoy any moment where they can engage in play time.
They are in a 4th and 5th grade combined class so the day is jam packed with instruction. Not only that but they are working hard to maintain the high level of achievement that was demonstrated through standardized testing. They come from a low income neighborhood where the majority of the students receive free lunch.
My Project
I am requesting board games and P.E. equipment. Students will be able to engage in dynamic play through the use of these games and equipment. They will build their vocabulary and increase their oral language skills while communicating with their classmates. They will learn to use their brains in thinking of the best strategies in making their moves. The playground equipment will give them much needed exercise and prepare them for the fitness test. They will learn the value of working together as a team and how it helps them to accomplish their goals. They will also understand the importance of good sportsmanship and how to express that to others in a respectful manner.
The students will remember the moments where they were able to enjoy each other more so than they will remember the tests that were administered to them.
These students need fun for their brains and for their bodies.
