This project will help all of our students that range from below to above grade level. In order to make sure each child is getting what they need, we do a lot of individualized centers. My biggest challenge, when it comes to teaching these students, is having enough materials. My kids are hungry to learn!
We have many students that are from low-income rural families.
My students come from a small farm town. My students are very curious about the world. Due to their income and home responsibilities, many of them have never left the area. They are all very eager to learn and read! Our school is very bright and encouraging. For many students, this is the highlight of their day. All of my students are also being given an opportunity to develop their own skills and talents in a way and at the pace that is best for them, through differentiated instruction.
My Project
Our class bunny, Blue, is in need of a larger cage and some enrichment activities. Blue is a very active bunny with a tiny cage. There are some days it is nearly impossible to exercise her. Have a larger cage and something to keep her mind busy will allow be to continue providing her a fulfilled life. The toys will allow us to help Blue stay exercised. It will also give the students more responsibilities for Blue.
I use Blue to help students learn compassion, responsibility, and self regulation skills.
Each week two students are in charge of cleaning Blue's cage and feeding her. This helps makes sure students attend school each day. I will also use Blue to help students with special needs, or students who are simply having a bad day, calm down.
