Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My wonderful students are 3-5th graders in a self-contained classroom. They are students with exceptionalities and varying abilities. I will be incorporating cooking in my classroom. Throughout the week we will become familiar with the recipe, and on Fridays we will end the week with making a snack for our fun Friday activities. The students will then end the year with voting on their favorite recipes and producing a recipe book they can use at home.
I believe that life skills are fundamental in a self-contained class; cooking and food preparation are an essential life skill.
The students will practice functional academic skills that will help them through out their life. With the Teacher pay Teacher gift card, I plan on getting visual recipes for my students. I will focus on recipes that are culturally responsive. My students will not only cook, but will be responsible for the clean up activities. This gives my students responsibility and a job that they can feel accomplished and proud to do.
