Fourth-graders know how to Shake Rattle and Roll!

These Urban Chicago students like to wiggle and squirm all day! They are learning how to move from dependence to gradual independence. It's amazing to see how the more choices my students have in the classroom environment, the more they feel invested in and responsible for their learning. When I give my students choices they become more engaged and more excited about learning. Their effort increases and their self-esteem rises.

My Project

Student choice is power. When students are given choices on where they sit they become focused and engaged in their learning. No one wants to sit on a hard floor but a comfortable and educational rug is oh so inviting.

When students are allowed to sit on comfortable ottomans and seats not related to traditional desks and chairs they tend to settle down and be less disruptive of others.

They are motivated make good choices and complete good work! This allows them to have the best learning environment for them.
