My students come from a wide range of socioeconomic, emotional and ethnic backgrounds. They enjoy hands-on learning and having information at their very own fingertips. From learning new technology and showcasing research projects online to learning about physics by building and testing their own marble runs, these 2nd graders do it all.
With Common Core and all the new curriculum sometimes it feels like we are constantly on the move.
This project would help our classroom environment become a fun place where students have freedom to move about. Since students will get to choose their seats, they will feel more ownership for their work and focus.
My Project
My students love to work all over our classroom. I like to give them ownership over the items I place on our walls, from student work to anchor charts. I am now exploring the option of giving them choice in where they'd like to sit during independent work time.
Having options such as yoga balls and wobble cushions will allow my students to have a voice in where and how they want to work.
With that, they will be held accountable for making smart choices and getting assignments completed. Since all students learn differently, flexible seating will give my students, especially my wigglers, different weat options throughout the day.
