Fun, Flexible Forms (Seats)

Help me give my students flexible seating options such as standing desks, floor cushions, and standing height tables so they can optimize a calm workspace that increases creativity, productivity, focus, and encourages students to work collaboratively.

My Students

My classroom is a place where students can be thinkers, wonderers, and an inspiration to their peers. They are natural story-tellers and love to share their experiences with each other. It is a place where they can travel all over the world through reading about the experiences and fictional adventures of a wide range of stories, including classic literature and the most modern and popular choices available in our library.

I teach in a small, tight-knit community where over 40% of students qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program, and a large number of families are bilingual.

Many times, students struggle with reading for a variety of reasons. When they finally find a book they love, they can't wait to share it with their friends and family in the community.

I want to help my students pass on the love of continuous learning and share it with their friends and family. They are the future of this small town and with the right tools, they will continue to make it great.

My Project

Flexible seating is leading students into the innovative world we live in today. The traditional way of seating students and other collaborative teams in rigid rows is rapidly declining. Today's world encourages flexibility and creativity.

Flexible seating encourages students to choose a workspace that produces calm, creativity, innovation, and collaboration with their peers.

This project will provide the options my students need to learn their best work habits as well as foster collaboration and eye-opening discussion.

Specifically, the lap desks will allow my students to choose a seat anywhere in my classroom and still have a hard surface to write on. Students that learn best through movement and standing will have the option to use a standing desk and/or standing-height table and stools. The floor cushions and Papasan chairs will provide even more alternatives for students who wish to change their location to discuss their ideas with a peer they don't normally sit near. All of these options will inspire a welcoming environment that belongs to my students and promotes a safe and creative location for them to complete their work and share their ideas.
