My Students
One of the many joys of being an elementary school teacher is having the pleasure of watching my students fall in love with learning. The end of elementary school is tough; from challenging standards to entering their teenage years, my students are walking their journey through many different walks of life.
I work in a small Title I charter school that serves students in grades K-5.
Title I means that many of our students come from low income families or areas. 100% of the students at my school are on free lunch. Our school and our community are very supportive of the education of our youth. It is not only our goal to make sure that students understand the subject matter, but to prepare them for a lifetime of learning and growing.
My Project
Choice. Students. Choice and students in the past haven't gone in the same sentence together. In today's modern classroom, it is essential that students are given choice regarding many aspects in the classroom.
Being comfortable in the classroom is important when it comes to student learning.
Students who are relaxed and comfy are better able to focus on the tasks at hand. My vision for this upcoming school year is to give students the choice when it comes to their classroom seating. I will still have traditional desk options, since that is most comfortable for some students, but I also plan on having yoga balls, balancing doughnuts, and stools for varying heights for students to pick from. These options will give students the power to pick how they'd like to sit during classroom instruction.
