I teach in a high poverty/low income area with a high population of English Language Learners (ELLs). I typically have twenty-two students in my first grade class. These boys and girls love coming to school each day and seeing what new and exciting activities are in store for the new day ahead.
My aim is to provide an exciting and welcoming environment that students can't wait to come into to!
Living in a rural area, access to resources in the community is often difficult. Our local public library is not easily accessible by many of my students and their families. I want to provide the literature rich environment that may not otherwise be available.
My Project
This year I would like to incorporate fun hands-on exploration bins in place of traditional morning work. It is important for first graders to have a set time for independent play and exploration. What better time of the day than first thing in the morning!
Morning Tubs will encourage students to ease into their work day, explore and make observations through play.
Having a variety of materials will allow students to make choices and have rotations throughout the school year. Our students are very involved and engaged throughout the school day and Morning Tubs will hook them from the moment they walk through the classroom door for the day.
